Shantanu Thaivalappil, basso, earned his BMus from Wilfrid Laurier University (’12) and continued private voice training, research and self-exploration for five years following graduation. During this time he studied advanced acting and theatre at UWaterloo for one year, performed various opera roles over the years like Hunding from Wagner’s Die Walküre with the Heroic Opera Company,  Masetto/ Il Commendatore and Leporello in two separate productions of Mozart’s Don Giovanni  in Germany and New York respectively, Sarastro in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Frid and Mr. Lindquist in Sondheim’s musical A Little Night Music, and Minstrel in the musicalPippin. His opera-excerpt performances include scenes from The Rakes Progress, Dido and Aneas, Manon, La Traviata, Ariadne auf Naxos, and Così fan Tutte. Between 2007 and 2017 Shantanu has performed with numerous choirs and in a few opera and oratorio choruses. His most cherished choral experience was singingPaths of Miracle by Joby Talbot with DaCapo Chamber choir. He is also a member of Badass Brahms Chamber Collective in Kingston, Ontario. At UWO he is extremely thrilled to be part of James Westman’s studio.
