Matthew Pope
Piano - Stéphan Sylvestre Studio
Pianist Matthew Pope is a third year DMA Candidate in the Doctorate of Musical Arts-Solo Piano programme at Western University. Matthew is currently studying with Stéphan Sylvestre (UWO), and a former student of John Paul Bracey (UWO), Ron Greidanus (Georgetown, ON) and Jean-Paul Sevilla (France-Summer, 2012). Matthew’s research focuses on Gabriel Fauré’s barcarolles for solo piano. His research aims to
demonstrate how an understanding of rhythmic pacing within these works can be used to create narratives that can be used to aid in interpretation.
Matthew has performed as a pianist, harpsichordist and/or organist with the Georgetown Bach Chorale, the Bach-Elgar Choir of Hamilton, the Masterworks of Oakville Choir, the Oakville Chamber Orchestra, the Toronto Beaches Chorale, Tryptych Toronto, and the Brampton Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his studies, Matthew is the Music Director for St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Broughdale in London, ON, and maintains a private teaching studio.
